Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I "join" Naomi's Circle?
Go to our Forums page to request an invitation (no approval is needed; this is just the process for our host site, BigTent). That will make you part of our growing online "group." However, you can come to this site, check out the dates listed, visit our blog, download articles, etc., without joining our Naomi's Circle Community.
2. If I can get information here, why join your online community?
Mostly for the personal support from other parents who live in your community. Joining our Naomi's Circle Community networks you with other parents locally who have walked the road that you are now on. It also gives you a platform to share your thoughts and feelings on forums, by submitting writing to be uploaded to our "Files", and by posting reviews of books, music, and other resources that you have found helpful in your grief journey.
3. So is this only for parents?
No. Naomi's Circle is meant to be a resource to parents, family, friends, and professionals, especially in the Columbia, SC, area. This website and the general area of our Naomi's Circle Group is for anyone touched by loss. The subgroups "Mothers Forever" and "Always a Dad" are more private and for parents only, offering a place to share the more raw and personal feelings that accompany the loss of a child.
4. Do I have to be a Christian to join?
Nope. We welcome anyone regardless of your faith journey. Naomi's Circle is founded, though, in faith in Jesus Christ, and everything posted here will reflect that. We know plenty of people have survived the loss of a baby without Jesus, but we can't imagine walking this road without Him. We are happy to share more about what it means to have faith in Jesus with anyone who is interested. If you would like to know more about this right now, please contact us, or visit this page with a simple explanation of the message of Jesus in English or one of more than 100 languages.
5. Do I have to be from Columbia, South Carolina?
Nope again. All of the support group meetings and activities on our calendar are in the Midlands area of South Carolina, but the rest of the information is applicable regardless of where you are from. If you are from another area of South Carolina, and would like to tell us about support and resources in your area, please feel free to contact us with that information. We would be happy to expand our information to include your hometown.
6. Can dads join Naomi's Circle?
YES!! There are far too few support groups out there for men who have lost babies. Men and women can join Naomi's Circle, and dads are then encouraged to join the subgroup "Always a Dad" where they can connect with other men.
7. When will your real-life support group begin? What will it be like?
A Naomi's Circle Pregnancy After Loss Support (PALS) Group meets in the northeast area of Columbia, South Carolina, at Spring Valley Baptist Church, in the new educational building (91 Polo Road). The group meets on the 2nd Thursday of every month from 7:00-8:15 p.m. Meetings consist of a time of introduction, sharing of stories, prayer, and sharing about struggles and issues that we are facing. The Bible will be incorporated into our discussions, but it will not be a formal Bible study, per se. You do not need to register in advance - just come! If you have questions, please contact us at [email protected], and if you need childcare, we do need advance notice. A Naomi's Circle Loss Support Group will begin in Fall 2012.
